Assume you mean "booming" noise. Seems a lot of the aftermarkets do that. One of the reasons is that the tail pipes don't extend out far enough from beyond the body and the gases exit and linger under the rear bumper.

Buy some chrome pipe extensions, cheap from Wilco and it helps quite a bit.

In fairness, each of my tail pipes has got two, one over the other and its now just got a very gentle "big V6" burble.

Duggs, do you know the Wilco part number?

I went to Longlife in Carshalton on Friday and got a cats back stainless system fitted for £350.10 inc. VAT and fitting  Thumbs Up!.

That included a cheeky 10% discount, just for asking  Wink.

I have to say the system does sound louder, although I went for Standard which is allegedly quieter than Mild Sport.

Then again the old exhause came off in the guys hands as the joins to the back box were crumbling and had holes so no surprise the engine note changed  Grin.

Sounds a good price!  Are you happy with it?  Loudness?

Good price, yes, as stealer wanted upwards of £600 for a GM (single walled) system.

Happy, yes as the fitter gave the opinion that it would have failed the MOT, which is due in a month and I had advisory on leaking exhaust gases.

Loudness, happy I chose Standard silencer, and probably louder as people have noted that stainless systems are louder.  In my case having a crumbling exhaust full of holes probably diluted the volume coming out of the back.

When my webspace is back up and running I'll post up a full report, as promised  Thumbs Up! Thumbs Up! Thumbs Up!.

Can't say i'm overly impressed with my Longlife exhaust, I asked them to replicate the original twin pipe throughout design as per GM but they still put a Y joint and a single pipe. I went for the quietest option but it's nowhere near the quiteness of a genuine twin walled item (oh if they were still available  Cry). The most annoying noise is the sound at 70 - 80, the genuine GM item is silent at those speeds.

In my case they replicated the twin pipe all the way through to the back box.  Then ended up re-using the tail pipes off the back box as they were slashed and rolled at the tips which they couldn't do.  This part was intriguiging as it was a genuine GM exhaust that they took off, so assumed the tail pipes were factory fit.

As for noise, I seldom do motorway miles and it was the price and perceived longevity of a stainless steel system over a single walled GM system at almost twice the price that sent me to Longlife in the first place.

If they had done mine the same as yours (and indeed how i'd asked them to do it) i'm sure I would have been a lot happier but they didn't.....

As it is, if someone had a genuine 2.6 / 3.2 double wall'd exhaust in good / excellent condition to sell, the longlife item wouldn't be fitted to my car anymore.

I think I would agree with that; I would pay for the privilege for such an exhaust, but as they're no longer available other than second hand and still rare as rocking horse poo, Longlife was my backup choice.

In retrospect I may well have preferred the quiter nature of the GM OE system, but I can't be sure due to the holes in it, even when I bought the car.  Then again the Longlife system provides a meatier V6 burble.
