Climate Control not functioning

Hi Guys,

I recently noticed that the air con is not working in my car.  I have not used it in many months due to the cold weather which I know is not a good idea but I forgot, oooops. Anyway now the air is not being cooled and the compressor I dont believe is working. The silver pipes are no longer cold when before they were. I have read on here that if the level of refridgerant is too low the compressor does not activate to protect itself. Is this likely to be my problem and the solution is to go to a place or have a mobile air con guy come to me? Is there a way I can check whether that will solve my problem or whether theres another problem.

Are there any places or people that you can recommend that are close to me in Watford, Hertfordshire and what the cost is?

It probably is low. The question is why.

I suspect its leaked, possibly due to dried out seals due to lack of use.

Either way, it needs a specialist to look at it.

Agreed , I have found a complete service in the watford area for £69 + VAT, seems a tad expensive based on what others have said about Air con in the past, http://www.autoaircon.net/car-air-conditioning.html can anyone think of places that have a different price, I dont mind paying for quality but if its the same as elsewhere then that would be annoying.

Thanks

Price sounds a bit high.  An AC service is simply to vac it out, and put new in. Ask how long they vac it for - the longer the better (45m-1hr is good).

Hopefully they will put some dye in, so if you have a leak, they can locate it.

Hi,

I have what sounds like a similar problem. Climate control only cools at "LO" and all other times it blows hot. Fan speed is controllable as are the directors. The coolant has been serviced and today I had the "regulator"? changed (well hidden under dash LHS). The garage that did this had spoken to Vauxhall and they decided that was the most likely problem. Sadly the problem still exists so currently I am £270 down and still no climate control.

The external temperature sensor has not been working for some months - a similar period to the climate control problem but I can't tie them together exactly. However, I get conflicting stories about whether they are related.

Any help on this would be much appreciated, especially if anyone has a wiring diagram for this model - V reg (Aug '99) 2.0CDX petrol estate X20XEV.

Regards.

If you have a facelift car - one that looks like an Astra G with the grille attached to the bonnet, window switches on the door, then the two ARE connected.
If you have a prefacelift car then the tow are separate from each other.  Thumbs Up! Thumbs Up!
