Whine from front of engine V6 3.0! (Read 430 times)

Dioptre+150 Newbie Offline Posts: 40 Drives: Omega Elite 3.0 1999	Whine from front of engine V6 3.0! 29. Mar 2011 at 13:19 Hi! Whine from front(offside I think)of V6 3.0. I have changed aux.tensioner pulley,still persists. No other effects but increases with engine speed. Any ideas?

I would run it (briefly! since the water pump won't be turning) with the aux. belt removed. It could be tired bearings in the alternator which this will eliminate. If the whine is still there it's probably cam belt related - a failing idler or perhaps incorrect belt tension.

Given that the cam belt's only got another 8k to go anyway, I would probably just change it if it's the source of the noise.

Reply #5 - 29. Mar 2011 at 13:27 Whip the Aux belt off and take it for a short spin, that gets rid off Alternater and Aircon, if its still there was the water pump changed with the last Cambelt?. Your due a new Cambelt Kit and Water pump in about 8K anyway. Chris.
