Y reg auto gearbox
29. Mar 2011 at 17:18

Hi

The gearbox in my 2.2 automatic Y reg petrol Omega is on the way out. I was wondering if it is possible to replace it with an automatic gearbox from a newer model.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what makes you think its 'on the way out' - Is it just slipping? It could just be low ATF fluid, on a level surface, with engine running fluid should be up the the fill plug.

Its the AR25 in the 2.2, and the 4 pot really does not have the power to put the box under any strain!

First gear has already burnt out in it and it appears to be taking of in third.

What do you mean by a "4 pot"? Sorry I don't know much about Omegas

Starting in 3rd? Are you sure the snowflake button has not been turned on/jammed on? This causes it to pull away in 3rd....

4pot, as in 4 cylinders, the 2.2 has 4 of them, unlike 6 in the V6. The 2.2 really does not have the power to 'burn' out a gearbox, unless you tow a very heavy burger van caravan up some very, very large hills.

Gearbox has been checked by 2 auto box specialists & 1 franchise dealer & they all say the same. I have difficulty with it but all 3 can't be wrong. Just have to get a 2nd hand box. Cry

Oh yes they can Wink Wink Wink See the other post you have running before replacing the box... Clean the selector switch. It will cost you a can of contact cleaner and a couple of hours under the car and there's a good chance it will cure the fault Thumbs Up! Thumbs Up!
