advice needed pls. About to maybe buy 2.5 TD elite
30. Mar 2011 at 20:14

I have been nearly a year without an Omega  Cry I have come across a well price 2.5 TD auto elite. I have read about chipping them so they behave better in power and economy. Does anyone have any idea how much this costs and where I can get this done. This has to be a factor in the purchase for me. Thank you for your help.

I wouldn't bother chipping if its an auto, the gearbox won't cope with it unless you replace it with a 3.0 AR35 gearbox Wink

What can I expect economy wise then. Is it worth buying a TD over a V6 ?? I normally never have any money and in the unusual position of having a small amount and I am looking to buy another Omega

Prices are low all round, I have the option on a really nice New shape Auto TD Elite 109,000 miles at around £1400. Fuel consumption was the reason I had to sell my V6 Elite

Thats about what I would expect for a diesel Elite with low mileage  Wink

The question still is for me about fuel consumption. If you had a choice between a V6 and a new shape TD, both auto. Which way would you go, based on MPG, Of course a V engine has beautiful sound, that the diesel dosen't.

The diesel will be more economical but by how much I wouldn't know because mine is a chipped manual Wink

How much difference do you see on a chipped manual. I could of course continue looking for a manual and chip it, but the cost of chipping would be a factor too.

When I bought my chip it cost approximately £70. The only time I checked fuel consumption was when I went to Scotland to collect a 2.2 Omega. I filled up before I set off and towed a dolly there and an Omega on the dolly back so rarely went over 55mph and I did the 505 mile round trip on a tank Wink

But apart from that great car as longs its serviced  Thumbs Up!
