Given that car would likely end up again on this forum....to save a lot of bad feelings, I would be totally honest and sell with a water leak 'somewhere at the back of the engine'.

I had to deal with a car that had had radweld etc in it, the constant matrix flushing etc is a pain, you can never get rid of it afterwards.

Hey mantagte, I've never put radweld in a car just before getting rid, or some other attempt at deception, nor has a great deal of oof members I suspect.

You say "buyer beware", and yes I agree with you, but that does not justify trying to deceive a buyer, leaving them car less and penniless. Shocking behaviour IMO.

There's been an interesting range of opinion here. Thumbs Up!

Either it’s a case of fixing the car (which I know is difficult in the circumstances), selling it with the known faults identified or breaking it. (Providing the time and space are available)

I would certainly agree with those who suggested that to sell any vehicle with known but undisclosed faults is bad form to say the least and, if you think back to the last Ford you sold to the dealer who placed it on the auction site soon after without describing some of the weak points, you can see how distasteful this can be.

My inclination would be to have the fault fixed (as you know the car) but failing that, sell it to one of the other members who are willing to buy it as is – providing you can get a fair price for it.

if I could find a way (no way unfortunately) to transfer the car from the border I could pay 2000£ as a non runner without doubt..

and next week I could sell it for at least 7000£ as a runner..  Grin

repair and use.. I always prefer a known beast.. Thumbs Up!

Its a clean tidy car last time I saw it. It has a little weep from HG (presumably back of passenger side back - thats where 1998 3.0l ones tend to go).

Sadly, even without the leak, its virtually worthless on the open market, with the HG problem, its scrap money Sad

If it was my MV6 (not in as good condition as when I last saw yours), I'd probably do the HG, as like you, I love my MV6 (fortunately, I've already had my HG done, so hopefully that will never reoccur). Yes, I've frequently said enough is enough. But I always fold, and fix her up again.

Quite simply, you have 3 choices as I see...
1) Fix it and keep
2) Break it yourself to acheive maximum money from it
3) Sell for sod all to a breaker who can make some money off it

Or start 1), ie strip down to HG, and try to put it back together, and if it all goes horribly wrong, leaves you with option 2) and 3)

some famous footballers tried that in the past and go in big trouble.. Sad

My Thoughts are identical to TB's.

In addition I would like to say that what I can hear is " oh no not something else has gone wrong".

I believe you should do HG. especially if 1. you can do it yourself 2. and nothing is wrong with head itself.

If can't diy then get someone from here, as they would be far cheaper than garage.

You've broken the back of doing the main things and then having someone proffing from all your hard work will definitely be gut wrenching if it was happening to me.

Atleast with the head off you can do a good exam or compression test (appx £35) to put mind at ease or see whether it's worth doing/keeping or sale.

If everything ok and worth it you may well fix and enjoy it for as long you can and if anything does go wrong then get rid.

These are only my opinions and I hope you make the right choice Thumbs Up!

Guy, take it off the road for a while. You can park it up on the drive/front garden with no major issues IIRC. Then make a decision... What are you going to tow the 'van with? Roll Eyes

There's got to be a better option than getting rid... It's not that big a job TBH and you couldn't knowingly sell it with a fault Wink I can say that with 100% conviction having spent some very pleasant time in your company Thumbs Up!

You'd miss the Beastie and, the current little temper tantrum aside, she's highly reliable and good fun Wink Wink

All else fails, Emma and I will come up for a weekend later in the year and you and I will do it Thumbs Up! Thumbs Up!

She's all back together now with new exhaust clamps. (still don't like refitting old stuff, even little things. TART!!!) Bought K seal but not put it in yet. We'll do that tomorrow. If i was keeping her then simple, BOTH HG's would be done but after nearly 5 years & 2 Migs i fancy a change. I'm one of those who change cars every few weeks so my thoughts are:-
It'll cost me £2/£300 to pay someone here to fix her up & i'd be lucky if she made a bag of sand which would leave me with £7/£800 if i'm lucky.

I WILL NOT sell her to anyone dishonestly, do unto others etc. Cheats never prosper. TBH i fancy another little MX5 & on swapz i could probably get one that might need a fettle but they're simple so could be done in house, or put a few quid on top for a better one.

Being as i can't do any OOFMEETS this year towing the van is'nt an issue the the classic meets i'm attending are local so my Ambulance/security mates can tow the van for me while i trundle along in the Cortina.

I'd like her to go to someone here who can fix the HG & enjoy her but i know she's worth more to break so who knows? She should be up & running again tomorrow so i'll use her for a while longer, just need some pink coolant.

Despite my silly moments on here when i see my arse i'd like to retain my membership as i love you lot...no really i do... & will want another Mig in a year or two & when i do i'm looking for a pre 2000 V6 auto facelift estate as a big old cruiser grandad motor. But until then..... Cool

Guy, I started reading this post, and around page 2, I was going to send you a PM, and say come down for a weekend, let's do the HGs (free of charge, aside the gaskets)

I got to page 3, and realised you've already made your decision you don't want her any more, and, if she's now worth nothing to you - it's not worth doing.

Good luck with the MX5 Thumbs Up!

Well we have a developement...sort of. K seal is in run up & no leaks, temp good & hot air through heater. However in our ignorance we've managed to shear the clutch pipe so that will be replaced & bled through during the week, box with shiny new clutch is off again!!!
Thanks & BIG MAN LOVE BROMANCE to Elite Pete for your offer of help & terms. Thoroughly decent bloke but i understand your time is limited & i need a "quickie"!!! Upshot is she's off to sunny Scunny to a certain ex member next weekend & he's doing it for me @ mates rates...although he's not happy about having to flush the K seal out! Roll Eyes At least then i can honestly sell her as all ready to use & enjoy, & in a year or so's time get the facelift estate i fancy. A 2.5 will do fine, no noisy exhausts &....wait for it....i quite fancy a lazy auto next time!!! Must be mellowing.

Thanks again for your concern offers & help, Guy. Thumbs Up!
