Hi Everyone -  When starting my recently purchased 2001 MV6 from cold it makes a strange noise similar to the air con unit being on but once revved it stops, once its warmed up it doesnt do it again. IS this something serious or normal

Sounds to me like the secondary air injection, you can unplug it if you want  Wink

You will have to excuse my lack of knowledge - does it effect the car in anyway - what does it do ?

Thats what the forums for Wink

There's a pump under the passenger side wing and it pumps air into the manifolds on start up to help warm the cats quicker. It was removed from the later 2.6/3.2 and its easy enough to unplug the pump Wink
