MOT fail...
08. Apr 2011 at 14:59

...but for once it's on something that's not mechanically expensive  Thumbs Up!.

Looks like one of the tyres is below the legal minimum for tread and I bet it's on the inside shoulder  Roll Eyes.

Never mind, just brings forward my trip to WIM for a set of four tyres and a full geometry setup.

I've called them already and they can have the tyres in and do the geometry on Monday.  What's even better is that they've quoted the best price on the tyres so far and the OOF price for geometry is £60 + VAT, not £95 + VAT.

Given that my current MOT has two weeks to run I can get all of this sorted before it runs out  Thumbs Up!.

EDIT The WIM treatment will be a massive help in how much nicer it will be to drive as well Thumbs Up!

getting worried myself my tyres are wearing on the inside so i need to get it sorted as mot is next month,
Not sure on the pass or fail of this as my friend has a company car and the tyres were worn away on the inside a clear tracking issue however when he took the car into his local ats he was told they would not change them as the tyre had 75% tread,To his amazement he called into the local plod only to be informed that this was true.
So what i say is how do we stand on mot if 75% is legal,

Same rules:

Quote:
A failure with respect to tyre wear will result where:-
The grooves of the tread pattern are not at least 1.6mm throughout a continuous band comprising:
• Central 3/4 of the breadth of tread
• Entire outer circumference of the tyre.

Just because it 'could' pass an MOT doesn't mean that its in good mechanical order. If the tyre's are wearing on the inside then may I suggest that a once over of the suspension and wishbones is done. These may be deemed 'safe' on an MOT when the vehicle is static, but can lead to strange handling on the open road Thumbs Up!

thanks aaron the tyres were clearly about one and a half inch in shiny no tread, but plod said they were legal and to make things worse he rang the lease company HSBC lease and they will not change them or pay to have it tracked, Angry Angry

Had a good look at the tyres and as I suspected the inside shoulders of the front tyres are down to the markers  Sad.  Suprised only the n/s failed and not the o/s too.

So, booked into WIM on Friday 15th for a set of new boots and a geometry check, then back for an MOT re-test on Tuesday 19th at no extra charge  Thumbs Up!.

Yes, I suppose I could take some wishbones/steering idler/read track rods etc. but I just need to get the MOT sorted first.

It's possible that I might not need anything, but if I do then it's an excuse to go for good drive should I need a return visit  Roll Eyes.
