insignia sri, What do we think????

Looked at one today, felt it was claustrophobic as it had a black headlining, was OK till I then sat in the Omega which was more comfy, what do we think of these cars?  thinking of an SRI auto diesel 160bhp?

I was driving behind an Insignia tonight, and thought to myself "what an ugly car". Wink

Not overly keen on the look of the car either, although at Worcester DVLA office the other day, a blue Insignia VXR parked up next to me.

Fair play it looked good, huge alloys, subtle bodykit. Not sure I'd still want one though  Roll Eyes

My brother has a diseasal saloon as his company car, loves it and in 2 years and 65k has actually not broken it once. Fleet manager went mental when he first needed tyres though,£300 per corner for the 20" ones. The company immediately banned anyone else from ordering bigger than standard wheels on anything. Grin
Thumbs Up!

I think the insignia is a better than average looking car, especially in the higher spec; but i have noticed that whenever you pass one on the road the driver always has a good look at the omega!  Grin

Based on appearances only, it has a bit of an odd looking arse in saloon form - much better in the estate (Touring) guise.

The dynamic qualities of the car may well be another matter entirely - I don't know as I haven't driven one.

looks not bad, inner design ok..  claustrophobic (I hardly write it) will change a bit if white or light gray color chairs are preferred.. however in second hand definitely turbo will be a headache and cause extra problems.. Undecided

Had one recently for two solid weeks while working in France did quite a lot of miles in it..only problem was it was an ECO model and totally gutless in any of the top three gears we all thought it had some sort of 98 HP tree hugger motor in it.
Having looked it up on tinternet it seems it is the full monty CDTI engine completely ruined by different gear ratios and is not recommended as a company car choice because on British roads you will be changing fro 4th to 5th all the time to keep it going almost never using 6th therefore using more fuel than necessary cancelling out any saving on company car tax.
I can vouch for this, with cruise on in top on a virtually deserted French motorway things are OK until you need a bit of go,press the accelerator and nothing happens change to 5th and its just as dead 4th is the only answer. I would hate drive this car on a British motorway.

I would like to try a touring version with a proper motor in it as the rest of the car was pretty good (but aren't all new cars at £20K+ these days ?)

Felt about the same length wise as my Omega estate but with much less nose/rear visibility, that's why most of this new stuff comes with sensors front and rear. Smiley

I hired an SRI estate  late last year and was very disappointed to say the least .
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1288618401
Dreadful rear visability, unnecessarily complicated controls ,harsh ride qualities ,uncomfortable front seats which were too firm for daily use and mediocre performance ,although engine wasn't run in.
I parked the Omega next to one on Saturday last and had a good look at the two together.
Things move on but I just didn't feel attracted to the Insignia as I said before I won't be buying one further down the line.......

Had a test drive in one last year and the ride was so uncomfotable swmbo has a vectra sri and it is worse than that,
Have to say tho nice car if you go for the elite or se but i would go for the beige interior as the black is drab, Thumbs Up! Thumbs Up! Thumbs Up! Thumbs Up! Thumbs Up!

I personally think they look better in estate form. Not driven one yet though.

The saloon back end looks like a ducks arris! The interior doesn't look as roomy as the omega, especially with dark trim. Smiley

I'm not keen on the shape of the saloon/hatch shape, but the estate has really grown on me of late!

Reviews would certainly indicate a vast improvement over the Vectra it replaced, especially in its driving dynamics!

Not sure that it can be compared to an Omega though...  Undecided
