On the top of the V6 where it says ecotec if just that is taken off and then you clean the four small tubes out than run through it will this have any effect at all on (well) anything

If you are going to clean out the breathers system.(really should be done regularly anyway) it is worth doing the entire job properly as it only takes a few hours .

Full detailed guide in the maintenance section,and you will avoid later problems with leaking cam cover seals.

As Amba indicated - cleaning that part is part of the procedure for cleaning the breathers, but there are a few other parts which you need to clean as well. Thumbs Up!

Is there any indication of how regularly probably depends on length of journeys etc but can any idea be given

as already said  this is one of those jobs thats worth doing properly especially as there is a fantastic guide on here  sorry cant help with how often they should be done Thumbs Up!

Best to clean the breathers as per the guide then keep on top by frequent oil changes.  I change oil every 3k miles or so and the filter every other change.  Thumbs Up!
