Changing the water pump is peculiar to this sight as respect to a V6 and isn't really neccessary ( I know the reasons but don't agree) and concidering the price of an OE pump, even on TC would make me even more inclined to not fix what's not broke. Which is better, a cheap(er) generic pump or a used OE pump ................. there's only one way to find out  Grin  Grin  Grin  Grin

Does the water pump need to be changed on the V6 with a cambelt change then, or is that optional/recommended or deff do it?

Cheers  Thumbs Up!

For the sake of £35 I would replace it every time but I think Vauxhall do it every other cambelt change Wink

My apologies .......... I've not read the post properly again  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
It's good policy on 4 cylinder cars to have the water pump changed with the cam belt.

If you're paying someone to do the cam belt ie you can't/won't do it yourself, then change the water pump. If you're doing it yourself & don't mind covering old ground by accessing the water pump again, then I wouldn't replace the pump as a matter of course.

On a v6 - I agree. Dont see the point of taking off a perfectly good VX pump and putting a pattern one on, just in case the VX one wears out at some point in the future. It was probably a good idea when genuine pumps were cheap as chips, but as you say, they arent cheap anymore. Thumbs Up!

I'll stick with a part used OE pump rather than swap it for a pattern pump.  Wink Wink

I'll still with a part used OE pump rather than swap it for a pattern pump.  Wink Wink

I've only ever had one fail after about 4 months (and i've replaced a fair few) and it was promptly exchanged Thumbs Up!

As said, it depends if you're paying someone else. I'll stick with 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'  Wink Wink Wink
