So was thinking if this fitted I would be better replacing it with a new box and paying a couple of quid to have it fitted.

there's a big auto transmission 'specialist' on Trafford Park that told me SWMBO's auto box was stuffed. After a considerable sum of money exchanged the car came back exactly as was before he 'fixed it'. After trying to bull5h1t me .... I got my money back. There are 'specialists' & there are 'specialists'
SWMBO's problem was an electrical fault ie damaged loom.
