Fuel Cost Question
23. Apr 2011 at 16:28

Hi everyone!

I've got to pick my daughter and all her stuff up from uni soon. It's about a 440 mile round trip.

I'm buying a 1998 2.5 petrol elite next week. Does anyone have any idea how much the fuel will cost? I will drive at a steady 56mph! Roll Eyes

Many thanks for any help! Thumbs Up!

aye, driver / route dependant, at least a full tank, so budget £100 and you should have some left over.

Driven nicely - should do it in a tank.
driven hard - could use 2 full tanks.

Do you break V6's as often as TheBoy? Then you need tunnie's towing services, recovery costs are just the humiliation of being towed by 2/3's of an engine

i dont know if there is a difference as if you drive at  56 mph it will take you longer to get to where you are going thefore your engine will be running longer than if you drive at 70 mph Thumbs Up!

I easily get 35 mpg cruising at 80 in my 3.0 litre auto elite. If you use 15 of the 16.5 gallons from a full tank you should be getting 525 miles.

56mph should be much more economical than 70, the extra fuel is burnt overcoming air resistance at higher speeds, which increases rapidly as speed increases.
I had plenty of time to travel Sheffield to New Forest a few years back and I was on an economy drive at the time so kept around the 56 mph range - my trip average (on the computer) was better than 55 mpg, and would have been better without a section of roadworks..
