tapping on start-up
29. Apr 2011 at 22:18

hi,all
had my 2.6 for about 6 months now,,,no probs at all,,
about 2 weeks ago,,when starting engine for first time in mornings,,,theres a very slight knocking/tapping noise from engine,,,,
If left to tick over, you cant hear it,,,its only when you press tha accelerator lightly that it starts,,,,
if left to tick-over for about a minute,,it stays quiet,,and is ok for rest of the day,,,theres no power loss at all,,and drives a1,,,,,,,changed the oil and oil filter last week,,,little bit better but still there,,,theres about 65,000 miles on clock,,,belt was done at 43,000 miles,,,,,,,as i say, theres no problem,,,any ideas,???,,,using 10/40 semi,,,,,,someone suggested using 5/30 oil  ???
thanks
Colin

I would tend to do some quick oil changes, if that doesn't help, use some Wynns lifter treatment.

2.6 tends to have a very reliable manifold gasket...  ...unlike the poor ones GM fitted to ours Grin

When you eventually fix it, use the MLS one, not the original.
