I'm replacing the cats on my 2.5 V6 tomorrow, now I got all the fixings & gaskets from VX but when I've looked at the join on the manifolds/cats it looks like it's a stud on the manifold & just a nut on the cat side but I've been given just bolts from VX no nuts ?
So whats the right combo to fix it up 1: Stud in manifold & nut cat side or 2: VX bolt through cat side & threads into the manifold, one of them is wrong but don't know what one as the more I go through the car it looks like it was maintained by KIRB SIDE GARAGE & sold by BODGE IT & FLOG IT car sales

Yes mate I was just wondering why VX gave me bolts instead of nuts  as they had to order all the bits in, so they will get them back Tuesday, cheers Daz

That's what I'm afraid of, can you drill them out in situ or do you need to remove the manifolds

I did them in situ with just the fron of the car up on ramps, but it was hard work. Especially on the arms.
Got through quite a few drill bits as well.

Never had a bolt snap while taking cat nuts off (2 nuts per cat) although regularly need a breaker bar...generally 16mm nuts (unless some muppet has put the wrong ones on when changing the cats) which is handy as you can use a size 10 spark plug socket which happens to be an extended 16mm, perfect for the job...a little awkward to get up to the nuts and will need a couple of extension bars to get the job sorted

As for the exhaust end of the cats, the bolt should bolt through the exhaust directly into the cat...obviously on many older cats the hole and/or thread has rusted away so you will find the bolt secured by a nut...13mm that end

Dont forget to unplug the wire into the lambda sensor before dropping the cat down
