Any ideas with knackered Espace

Hi Guys,
Anyone any ideas whats causing my mates 2.0l Petrol espace sound like a diesel on tickover??
It strted making the noise a few weeks ago checked oil LOW topped it up noise stopped this week its started doing it again just flushed engine dropped the oil changed filter filled her back up and it still sounds like an old taxi?? The strange thing is get her up to about 2500rpm and the noise stops??
Any thoughts greatfully received.

Oil pick-up is semi blocked.  Not allowing sufficient oil to be circulated at low RPM's.  Get it sorted ASAP else severe damage WILL be caused.  Thumbs Up!

Is the oil pick up the tea strainer in the sump?

Yes.
Drop it and clean it properly, not just the gauze bit.

Remember that the clattering noise you are hearing will not just disappear in a heart beat.  Damage has already been done, especially seeing as the engine has been run for god knows how long with very little oil combined with a poor pick-up.

It'll run for an undetermined amount of time, but a head re-build will more than likely be needed at some stage.

Not a lot of room under that bonnet either  Embarrassed

My mum used to have one - surprisingly quick.

No car licence at the time.
