Oil Smoke!!!!!
09. May 2011 at 10:28

Hi All,

I've done 6K since rebuilding the top end of 2.5 V6.  (new seals and everything) Every thing is superb but I recon I've got oil breather problems.  I noticed in the sunshine this morning that after about 10 minutes idling with the engine warmed, it was producing a bit of blue smoke (in the mirror) when throttled.

I hope nothing more serious to worry about.  Any thoughts what to check/overhall/change?

Many thanks, Smiley

hey! please don't take this as gospel as im not up to scratch on my omega's but i recall that on the plenum (rear right) there is a breather which usually emulsifies which causes it to be a bit ****  Wink i mean some one more up to scratch will probably identify it but id personally check  the pcv and look at the condition your oil is in, it can sometimes tell you the problems  Smiley

Thanks Mike, the oil's fine but probably due a change soon.  Hopefully it is something in the region of the plenum pipes but can't be sure yet.  I know that somewhere on the back of the block is a breather pipe the is a bit prone to crudding up and increase the the crank case oil pressure.  I wonder if its anything to do with this?

Thanks again

That could possibly be the one i have in mind Smiley ,
And yeah it could well be that  anything to do with crankcase pressure causes havoc! and damage in long term  Undecided

Start by unblocking the holes into the breather box and return purge valve (the parts the 2 small centre pipes and the Y pipe from the plenum run in to)...this should help a lot...bit of wire or a needle to unblock the small hole...whatever you like for the bigger holes lol While the pipes are off may as well give them a clean too Thumbs Up!

Thanks very much.  A good general cleaning of the plenum and breathing system seems to be on the cards.
Thumbs Up!
