Omega values now !!!!!!
10. May 2011 at 09:00

Well after much grief from swmbo about fuel costs we took a drive out yesterday looking at another car,we did the usual main dealers then the older car sales garages and guess what, p/x value on my mig is £425 i have a 2.6 02/52 cdx 81k miles and is mint condition only 2 previous owners, This value was only if i leave the 8 months tax on it !!!!  Well it did me a favour because swmbo said you might as well keep it at that price, RESULT i think as i don't want to sell it anyway, But is that realy its value.???

You would of course get a bit more selling it privately but the value of any large engine petrol car has dropped a lot lately.

My only criteria for a car is it must be automatic. So on ebay or autotrader I just search for auto, no make no models etc. it is surprising how many bmw merc audis etc with big petrol engines that are available at give away prices.

Sadly as an Omega owner I believe my car is worth far more than what anyone would be willing to pay for it.   Cry

Trade in values are always stupidly low, especially on a large engined beast.

Private sales will generate a bit more but can be a PITA Roll Eyes

Dealers look to gain £500 minimum on any sale, so look at about a grand I guess. Don't tell the Mrs though.  Grin

As on the LPG subject, how much is it to fit one on professionally/specialist. does the price vary with the tank size?  Sad

Mine was converted 3 years ago professionally .. at a cost of £1850 + VAT ( VAT was 17.5%) = £2173.75

Tank difference in prices was small really, system was a major cost  (I went BRC) and most places quoted big differences in 4 pot v V6.

Took just shy of 2 years to "pay for itself" as the saving is around 10p per mile - doesn't seem to change much over the longer term as LPG /petrolprices rise and fall, although in the short term can drop to around 8.5 - 9 p per mile.

I researched LOTS and if I'm perfectly honest .. I believe the general consensus is that mine is possibly the only decent professional install around .. most others have serious problems.

If I were forced to change the car I would go LPG without a doubt... but would use the collective knowledge and skill of the forum members to assist me with a "DIY" install .... given sufficient "persuasion" (in liquid form ...  Smiley I think its possible to get them to do a great deal of the skilled work .. leaving me just to "hump and dump"

Not that I intend to change anytime soon !!

TBH that doesn't seem way out - until you take leaving the 8 months tax on into account  Shocked Shocked.
Quick look at ebay completed sales says you'd get more selling yourself, on the other hand you are looking at listing costs and the hassle of all the daft questions and actually getting the money out of someone at the end of the sale.

Anyway you've now got a free hand to keep the car where it belongs on the road / in your drive  Smiley Smiley

Thanks for all the opinions but as i tried to tell swmbo i do about 150 miles a week i love the car, I know all the noises it makes so why pay another 4k for a car thats not a patch on the mig, Tbh its a no brainer but swmbo face was a picture. Anyway i don't tell her she can't have her car,
Just a general thought to us all that our cars are not worth jack s but do put a smile on our face,

Actually even values on the bay aren't holding up at the moment, i've watched a 2001 3.2 police special with 103k fail to get a £750 BIN twice now.

Values over here in Ireland have just plummeted in the last two years .
Age and the crippling road tax.
Most facelifts are 2.2 's here but all will come with leather and be fully spec's . This was due to the fact that in their day they were competeing with MB ,BMW and Audi because of the additional 33% Vehicle registration tax applied to new cars. Estates are virtually unheard of due to that high initial cost .
The 2.2 still attracts an annual road tax of €823 ( £ 719 ) and the V6's are £978 , £1129 and £1367 ( sterling ! )
This has all but rendered them worthless except to the drifting boys Roll Eyes.
I only drive mine about 3 K miles a year and will keep it as to replace it I'd have to spend > € 10 K and watch it dwindle away due to depreciation each week and still have to pay out the exorbatent road tax anyway ( unless I bought a 3 cylinder Corsa..... Grin)
