a simple manual is faster than even a smg, dsg whatever name they have..no debate here..

example : an older model 328 manual beats 330 tiptro hands down even with missing 38 hp Grin Grin

and I dont mention details Grin that autobox specialists want your arm and leg(s) even for a small repair in countries  where second hand autoboxes are rare..

ps: only exception is the launch programs in some very expensive cars that the upshifts are done in miliseconds as far as I know

The Omega is a relatively big, mile-munching cruiser.  It is not designed to be thrown around B roads at break-neck speeds.  When you consider what it was designed for it is easy to understand why it is piss-poor at fast cornering, even in MV6 spec. (I'll get slated for that comment, but the vast majority would probably agree).

The Auto Transmission fitted to the Omega is quite competent and definitely one of the better boxes of it's time.  The only thing which annoys me is how (on later ECU updates) the transmission will change up too soon under 'careful' acceleration.  I find myself progressively pushing the throttle to compensate which uses even more fuel than it would if it held onto the gears slightly longer (as in the old ECU software versions).

I dont know if you are asking for personal opinion, but if so..... With the Omega and a V6 engine, I'd have the Auto over a Manual because it's just how it was designed and it ticks all the boxes because of that.

Regards.... A person who generally prefers Manual Transmissions.

Count your feet (just in case its not been said) Grin Grin Grin

Prefer a manual and in more control and the usual arguments will always come up but at the end of the day its a big comfy cruiser and what better way to cruise comfortablly than in an auto Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Thumbs Up!

Geoff, I reckon from 10-100 an Auto would probably win as well.  Not had a hige amount of driving experience in a Manual 3.0, but from what experience I've had, apart from the ability to smash holy hell out of the clutch, there is no advantage IN A STRAIGHT LINE.  Thumbs Up!

Right on BM! As said the manual box is terrible. tha auto seems to be in the power band (or torque band I should say) most of the time. Strangely enough on my two, the multi rams seems much more effective on the auto. I have checked operation of both multi rams on both cars and they're working fine, but once you get to 4k revs in the auto it's away, but below that the torque just propels you aling, whereas the manual you've really got to work the engine and gearbox hard to get it to go anywhere. I'm definitely with you on the 10-100 dash!

When i went to get the mv6 my dad came with me. I drove the elite auto back and he drove the manual mv6. I was in front driving up the m1. Once the slowcoach moved out the way in front, I put my foot down, and the mv6 just couldn't keep up. Yes you could say i had the advantage in the auto as I knew i was going to accelerate, but I still think they're faster.

Autos rule! Thumbs Up!

Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

just check auto and manual acceleration times..

if you know the term "gearbox lock up", it means that box is in slipping mode until 80 (regardless of rpm)- like you press the clutch pedal (then it works like a manual -after 80 ).. and will you race in that mode Huh

thanks for that basic lesson cem! I never knew how a gearbox works! If you read my post I'm talking about a rolling start. My auto locks up well below 50 mph and it will out run my manual easily.

Automatics rule Thumbs Up!

Acceleration times are from 0-60, which is a standing start, not a rolling start, as I was talking about. In any case these figures are useless anyway. Most acceleration in everyday driving is needed from a rolling start anyway, certainly in my experience.

Personally I prefer manuals and the one in my MV6 is exceptionally sweet. I can`t stand the way an auto box decides to change down or up when you either don`t want or least expect it, and they`re less economical too.
And as for the `how many legs have you got` is the daftest argument for something I`ve ever heard, do you have a keyboard with 10 keys on it?
It`s all down to personal taste and what you want from the car  Thumbs Up!
