can someone explain me the reason of first gear ratio nearly reaching 90 km/hr Grin

that could be the most stupid ratio I have ever seen Grin

the first time I witness it with a mechanic friend we were both shocked Shocked

and when you are accelerating it continues to slip Angry

ok.. may be comfortable, but not for hammering drivers like me.. waste of engine power ..

and the slip definitely waste of fuel if you drive it mostly in traffic jam..

it will be my first and last auto..promise Grin

that's actually a good thing.

you don't need a really short first gear for traffic in an auto

you can have a decent run up to speed without having to change gear

you can drop into first when you're driving

and because your torque converter is slipping, it's actually multiplying torque, so the car sees a much more powerful engine, probably 1.4 times

1. auto owners may want green light drag from time to time Grin

2. useful only between 40-70 (km) if we think in terms of acceleration Undecided

3. when the autobox is slipping I only see an increasing rpm but an unproportional slow increase in speed which is not the case with manuals ???

An auto is like a trombone you slide it for the same effect which in my opinion is smooooooth

I wont bother posting YouTube videos because quite frankly, I cant be bothered.... but, if you have a search and a view of a few Omega vids, you'll be able to see comparisons between Auto and Manual acceleration.

I noticed;

The Speedo rises in a quite fluid manner with an Auto, the Manual equivilent stops accelerating at gear-change (very quick gear changes at that).

The three gear changes required in a manual makes a 0-100MPH dash almost a second slower than the equivilent Auto.

A Manual will accelerate to 60MPH from 0 approximately 0.3seconds quicker (due to 'off-the-line' spurt).

These are all comparisons of like for like 2.5 or 3.0 Omega's respectively.

There are loads of vids. Take a peek, and post your own observations.

NOTE: All the timing I have observed are my quick (or not so quick) finger on the mouse to determine acceleration times.
