Spark Plug Woes!!!
10. May 2011 at 21:50

As some of you may know I have had some probs with a cambelt change, but have put all that right with the kit. Was only a tooth or so on the left bank but have put it all back properly now.
I though i would change the plugs whilst the plenum off and put new ones in. When I had rough idling I put the old ones back in but to no avail (obviously timing) and had a MAF fault show up (0100)

I came to put the new ones back tonight and I can't removet can't see clearly the back plug off cam 3 and 4, the socket will not go over it and there seems to be something down there I can't shift but I can't see what it is.
It's such an awkward so and so to get to as well which doesn't help. i know I haven;t stripped the thread as it went back in smoothly.
Any ideas????

Has your spark plug socket lost its little rubber collar from the end of it? Maybe that is what is stopping you getting the socket on?

the coilpacks you have taken off, check the boots on there and are they all the full length, as sometimes end of the boots break off and sit on the plugs? Worth a thorough look?  Smiley Smiley

If i need to see an area of the engine bay but its awkward to actually get at, i use mobile phone with camera and a torch. Take a snap then look at the picture. Just an idea  Smiley
Could be something stuck down there

To be honest guys i was worried to death that with me making a hash of the timing belt I had done something to the head. What ever it is looks solid and is down by the plug.
It wouldn,t be anything serious like that I hope?

whether its a sockets rubber collar, or bit from the end of a boot, it should be spongy? definitely not solid  Shocked which means its definitely something else..

Surely it couldn't be melted metal? Car has not been running long enough? Has anyone had these problems before?

Also is there an easier way of gaining access to the right bank as that cable tray really gets in the way and i don,t want to disturb too much!!

You have to move the cable tray out of the way, and even then, access isn't brilliant  Undecided

Have a look here http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1169337137

Hold the cable tray out the way with a bungy, or sumat, to the bonet stay.
Mirror on a stick and a magnet on a stick if it metal. Bend up a coat hanger or bit of wire to hook it out.

And you may have found the cause of your rough running if the obstruction was preventing the plug connecting properly or was causing a short to earth.
