Is it still charging? Sounds like you could get away with just replacing the bearing. They'll only be a few quid each.

thanks for replying. The aa fella reckons it was 10.9 volts so i guess it was charging as the battery was dead as a parrot on a john cleese sketch Smiley
Will the bearing being knackered cause it to charge less ?
Cheers

Mick

When you take the alternator off remove the black plastic cover and you will see the regulator and brushes, very easily removed and replaced...chances are the bushes have broke...but worth replacing both parts while your there Thumbs Up!

Not sure if the bits would come from Vauxhall direct or a specialist as I robbed the bits I needed out of another alternator when I did mine as the rest of the alternator itself looked in mint condition...I'm sure someone will know though Thumbs Up!

Edit: Look up Bosch Internal Regulator on ebay for regulator and bushes...£16 including delivery for the parts...

If you have the alternator off the car, you could ask a local autospark for a price to sort it  Undecided. The autospark local to me is very reasonable with his prices for this type of repair.

Someone else will be removing it as i have found 10 days work (woohoo) so will ask to see if he can do the bushes etc.
Thanks

Have spoke to the guy down the street that will be doing it, and he has bottled doing the bushes?
He would charge me for fuel etc to take it to the nearest place to get it reconned (its 30 mile each way) and as i have gotten a weeks work and an interview when i get back i cant do it myself so have plumped for a ebay jobbie and i will get the bits and recon m ine when i get home.
But thanks for all the advice guys

Bushes and regulator simply involves removing the black plastic cover on the end of the alternator undoing 1 or 2 screws holding the bushes and regulator to remove them, putting new one in place and doing the screws back up...hardly rocket science! Basically if you can change the fuse in a plug you could do this lol Not so sure about the bearings though as not done that before...
