Hiya, my car seems to have a very similiar problem, did you ever get to the bottom of yours? Would be grateful to hear what happened?

Hey,

Well we did notice on my car that the positive terminal crimp was a little bit loose, some of the copper wire was showing so I replaced it with a new connector and it appeared to fix the problem for the most part however when I really drove my car hard the other day, lots of acceleration/deceleration it came back again. It could still be the connector as it is a cheap halfords one, but it certainly improved it by replacing it.

One thing lazydocker noticed was that when my car was running the main positive cable at the battery was a lot hotter than the main negative cable. Which doesn't happen now with the new connector.

Hope this helps a bit Thumbs Up!

Everything is back to square one again with error 49 rearing its ugly head.

This time I think it is the electronics on the alternator as it's reading 15.5v idle and 17v when revved a little bit  Cry

I'm going to remove the alternator and have a look, possibly attaching it to a drill to test it.

I shall report my findings but I'm guessing that it was a faulty alternator off epray. I guess I shouldn't be too suprised.

After having removed the alternator it can be seen that although the plastic said bosch the regulator said cheap copy, so definitely an overcharging problem.

I went up to see Twiglet to get another alternator, he also had the wiring loom for the alternator, starter through to the battery so I thought I would change that and get rid of my halfords terminal all for a great price.

So I spent the evening fitting the new loom, alternator, a clean header tank, all from Twiglet Thumbs Up! and now my car has made it's first journey without a hiccup.

Now my next project is to replace all the delightfully blue spray painted bits under my bonnet Shocked Why would someone paint the engine, especially with rubbish paint that cracks and peels with heat Huh But that's for another thread.

Thanks LazyDocker, Twiglet and everyone else who's helped with this problem Thumbs Up!
