This is a question about a 1997 Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 Clutch.

I have been working my backside off despite all my physicall problems trying to get my next door neighbours ruddy car sorted.

The symptoms before it died were,  The biting point most of the time was at the bottom but sometimes at the normal biting point it should be and it wouldn't go into reverse unless you turned the engine off, put it in reverse with the clutch pedal down and then it would reverse and all other gears were a bit stiff on and off. Then it just wouldn't go into any gear at all! Also you could here the clutch release bearing quietly in the background when the clutch was depressed most of the time.

So I adjusted the clutch cable under the bonnet and added a couple of M7 nuts to lock the adjuster into place as it seemed to have adjusted itself when it shouldn't have. Now I am even more confused.

1 minute I can press the clutch down and will engage every gear with NO ISSUES or NOISES at all and then sometimes you can then hear the clutch release bearing quite loud and the gears go stiff and it slightly crunches into gear!

I know my writing is probably jibberish but if someone can understand what I mean I am hoping that someone can give me some ideas as to what is wrong with it.

i would be looking at the bearing for them problems TBH 

Thanks for the replies. I have told my neighbour that I think the car just needs a new clutch and that the work I have done will only keep going for a short while longer. It is driving now. And I am never working on that car again 

Only time I have seen such symptoms is on Fiestas (the 1.25 regularly does it)where the small metal return spring on the pressure plate snaps.
