ABS TC light on and no Speedo
18. Aug 2011 at 21:38

Whilst driving today the TC, ABS lights came on.
Also the Speedo dropped to zero and the Cruise Control turned off.
The trip computer went into g/h rather than m/h.

The car was still drivable and the Temp and Fuel gauges still worked.

Has this happened to anyone else?
Does anyone know what the cause maybe?

ABS ECU has died.
Options are - send it away to have it repaired. cost around £120 iirc. Or buy one from a car being broken. It needs to be from a 3.0 the same year as yours. If it isnt it will have to be enabled by tech2 before it will work.

Common occurence and numerous threads about it.

1. New from Vx .. around £700
2. From a breaker .. variable and may need a tech 2 session to configure
3. Repair ... around £130 by a specialist .. very few places have the facilities to rebond the failed wire. BBA-Reman did a good job on mine a few years back on the old 2.5 I had then

Job is fiddly rather than difficult .. access is the main problem.

I did look into the possibility of having them rebonded where I work, as we have bonding facilities, but apparently the gel that surrounds everything in there made it a non starter.
Mr DTM did warn of that possibility.

There's an excellent "How To" here. Takes a couple of hours. The car is drivable with the ABS ECU removed while away for repair.
