New bulbs in the instrument panel.
24. Aug 2011 at 17:55

Following the maintenance guide, I have removed the air-con vents and the three posi screws behind. I then removed the vent housing.

Dropping the steering wheel to it's lowest position I removed the final posi screw securing the instrument panel.

Christ it's tight. I could not fold the instrument panel fully flat in order to get to the back of it. Do I need to disconnect the MID (I think that's what it's called) There is so little space to do this?.....What type of connection is it?

yes.

Its a latching connector, same as Telematics if you have one.

Sure someone will post up a piccy soon....

Thanks TB. I've just found some more information that Marks DTM posted, explaining the procedure in better detail.... Thumbs Up!

Finally managed to remove the instrument pod. Although I did manage to break the black latch clip secured to the MID.....Doh!!!!!.....It's showing 1.1.1997 now.

Two empty bulb spaces at the back. One for the seat belt warning light.......and another (green light I think) with, for want of a better word a "wrench symbol"

As for the bulbs that are not illuminating (Temperature gauge and the bottom half of the rev counter).....their  filaments seem intact and unbroken ....Hmmm.

Could there be a problem other than the bulbs?. I suppose it won't cost me a fortune to buy a couple of replacements and find out.

Could be just a tarnished connector for the bulb or the flexible wiring connector to the main car harness

I just fitted a couple of new bulbs. Still no illumination whatsoever. The bulbs are a nice snug fit........and there is no visible corrosion on the contacts.

Sorted. No blown bulbs to replace after all. First of all one side of the pod became illuminated........then the other side.

It was only when I gave the top of the dash a decent pisser that the whole of the instrument panel lit up as it should.

What a waste of a couple of hours........ Grin Grin Wink
