Nfg. It wont work like that.

The stands are on the subframe, which need to drop with dif in order to get the springs out.

The stands need to go on the under body of the car chassis. Look by the exhaust hanger, there is a metal bracket looking thing on the floor pan right next to both exhaust hangers on the v engine cars. Put the stands there. You may need to place the jack on the outboard most part of the triangular plate centre bolt for the rear donut bushes, in order to get the jack outboard enough, or it's in the way of the stand in that location.

Make sure the stand is on the bracket section, not the floor pan itself, or it will bend the floor. Although if you look closely, as if it was s v engine car with two exhausts, there is nowhere else to put the stand.

Which side are you doing first ?

If o/s nothing left if you have undone the 4 diff mountings /bottom rear shock bolt completly removed/abs sensors unplugged and rear drop link .

Try just gently jacking the diff up and then releasing to get it moving, but in truth it should all be free and its own weight makes it drop...naturally supported by the jack !!

You have undone the correct 4 diff mounting bolts  have you ?

How much force should be required to pop the shock bottoms out of the recess in the rear hub assembly? Both appear to be stuck fast, do you just pull them out while lying under the car?

I've tried hitting the bottom part from the outside  Undecided

Stop,

See above post. You need to reposition the jack and get the stands off the subframe.

But when the time comes, put the jack Handel In between the hub and shock, and lever the shock off with that, they are stiff, like a press fit.

Depend on which type of compressors available. Mine are fine for the front, but no way will they work on the tear.

That's if T has any at all. But this way he doesn't have to buy or borrow any. Spring compressors take forever to wind up.

I don't have any compressors, i used them on the front springs, just did not like them.

Its all done now, I moved the stands, luckily I have a spare jack and stands, so did not take long.

New springs are fitted, diff is back up & bolted  Smiley

It actually went rather well, apart from putting stands in the wrong place, I managed to remove all bolts without sheering them, I was also man enough to release them all  Shocked

I want to remove the old shocks, now I need the second pair of hands.....

don't know about saloons but my shocks were stuck fast on the bottom mount i ended up putting a ball joint remover fork in the hole and whacking it with a mighty big hammer and that did the job, p.s why do you need an extra pair of hands for the shocks??

the funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it

Because the top bolt was stuck, had to file an edge into the shock itself, so could use big pair of grips to hold it, while I undid top bolt.

I had the shocks practically all done by time fat man arrived, was just doing the torque on the ant-roll bars.

So its all set now, had new front suspension around 6 months ago, fresh set of boots and a quick check up at WIM at my trusty old steed will be in not too bad of a shape  Smiley

Tomorrow (if the weather stays nice) its getting new air filter, new coolant bottle & new plugs!
