They sort of can, but its fiddly and involves de soldering the buttons, a lot of work for a little result.  Undecided

Nope, you can buy the flip that accepts the Omega PCB, just need to get the key blade cut Tongue

Well in that case could be easier, the 'how to' I read (not on OOF) involves removing the key blade from the doner, cutting a grove in it or something from memory and job done.

Still   Undecided

Just done mine today, took a bit of adjustment but works fine now.  took blank blade to Timpsons and discivered they will not cut customers blanks anymore, timpsons blanks they will still cut.  Luckily plenty of locksmiths around.

Just as well, Timpsons are over priced and their cut keys often don't work IME. Plus there's the usual "we can't cut it it needs programming" etc

I stopped using Timpsons tears ago cos I got sick of the keys that I had cut not working then the usual palaver when I took them back about "are you sure you put it right in" or "it will need to be programmed". Programmed? How the hell do you program a piece of steel?
I take all my keys now to a local Indian owned Ironmonger/DIY store and they do a brilliant job every time and are cheap as chips too.
Timpsons (they should stick to buggering up shoes), like many locksmiths are overpriced for what they do and deserve no custom at all IMO.

These keys aren't regular GM flip keys. They are designed to hold the electronics of the older non flip keys. There is no other operation involved than:

1. Remove electronics and chip from the original key and place it in the new flip one (which is shaped to tighly hold both).
2. Cut the blade.

This is not a bricolage work. This is a new fob for those electronics (which remain untouched an can be placed back in their original casing at any moment).

You don't change your body for dressing a new suit and you don't change your electronics to fit a new case. The suit and the case are designed to suit you and your electronics.
