To buy or not to buy...
20. Sep 2011 at 21:50

Hi guys,

Im a newbie on here and have admired the omega for a long time.

Anyhows, i'm looking at buying one as im fed up of the sports cars and want a bit of luxury. I am after an 03 plate model. To help me decide can anybody help me by giving me a general idea of what the car is like in respect to reliability, running costs, drive etc......

Any replies are greatly appreciated,

Cheers

yo ho ho and welcome to OOF!  Thumbs Up!

expensive to run and even the youngest ones are coming up to 10 years old. and its true some things go wrong!!!

however when its all running well the car is a comfortable dream to drive!!!  Wink

basic things are get the youngest model with as low mileage as possible. make sure there is proof the cambelt and tensioners have been done. check for rusty wheel arches. check ALL electrics are working, central locking, windows, seats etc cos i bougt mine and had to fork out for a new door motor pretty much straight away  Angry

take the plunge and go get it!!!  Thumbs Up! Thumbs Up! Thumbs Up!

Thanks for the replies so far guys, keep em coming!  Smiley

To be fair im used to the expensive running costs with the current motor and I suppose any purchase needs a certain amount of luck with regard to reliability.

Whats the average cost of a service/repair please guys?

To be fair, I cant wait to get sat back and eating up the miles  Wink Wink

Hello and welcome Thumbs Up!

To answer your questions. Without a doubt they are highly underrated cars. They can (and frequently do) cost a bit to maintain but it's worth it. Are you used to playing with spaners? If so, get a Trade Club card by joining Autonahnstormers and it means that you can by the oil and filter for a change for around 14 as long as you buy 20L of oil at a time... Well worth it and covered here many times.

As for the car... I disagree with Webby a little. I wouldn't be looking for a low mileage car specifically Wink My saloon had over 177k on the clock when I sold it and was running better than my estate at 70k Wink Just a case of checking it has been maintained properly Thumbs Up! And that doesn't mean a Full Vauxhall history either Roll Eyes

Main things to allow for are Cambelt Kit change every 40k/4 years and wishbone bushes. You also need to allow (in your budget) for a full geometry setup unless it has been done recently Thumbs Up!

Everything else (pretty much) is fixable with the guides on her and when they are running right they are a very nice drive. Thumbs Up! Thumbs Up!

Good luck with the search

Hiya welcome to the forum Thumbs Up!
I do agree with Lazydocker ....good maintenance is the key to keeping the Omega running so if you're handy and can do the basics go for it !!!!! Thumbs Up!

hello and welcome

dont do it, i bought mine about a month ago and wish i hadn't! mine is a 2001 with only 68k on clock, nothing wrong with it apart from being to thirsty and thats compared to my last car a vr6 golf which i wish i still had and probally get again.
also its trying to sell one of these migs after, as no one hardly wants them,so you could be stuck with it for a while but thats my own thoughts  Thumbs Up!
