Welcome to the forum   Thumbs Up!

we are a very friendly bunch on here.

If you let us know where you are based  - there may be an Oof member close by who would advise you on your proposed purchase and if so,  may even go along to view it with you.

I would agree with Lazydocker, high mileage is not neccesarily a bad point. Some good bargains around with high mileage.  Servicing & good maintenance are the key points in my opinion . . for what it's worth.

As said above  Cambelt history is a top point. also cam cover gaskets & clean breather system.

Just out of interest you looking for a 4 pot   or a V6 ?

Any furthur questions you have may be better responded to in General car chat or Omega General Help

Thumbs Up! Thumbs Up!

Hi, and welcome  Smiley

For what its worth, I bought my first '02 V6 Estate at 55k in 2006, just changed it at 165K for a '52 V6 Estate with 53k. Engine was still great on the old one, just things like shocks and general wear & tear. I don't do any work myself and do fairly quite high mileage. I wouldnt have got another one If I had any doubts.

BUT . . like others have said it's not a cheap car to run, and make absolutely sure of cambelt, tensioners and water pump. I've heard reports of unreliable electrics, but this seems to be mainly earlier models. I've had no problems.

Hope this helps. Cheers !

Hello and welcome Thumbs Up!

To answer your questions. Without a doubt they are highly underrated cars. They can (and frequently do) cost a bit to maintain but it's worth it. Are you used to playing with spaners? If so, get a Trade Club card by joining Autonahnstormers and it means that you can by the oil and filter for a change for around £14 as long as you buy 20L of oil at a time... Well worth it and covered here many times.

As for the car... I disagree with Webby a little. I wouldn't be looking for a low mileage car specifically Wink My saloon had over 177k on the clock when I sold it and was running better than my estate at 70k Wink Just a case of checking it has been maintained properly Thumbs Up! And that doesn't mean a Full Vauxhall history either Roll Eyes

Main things to allow for are Cambelt Kit change every 40k/4 years and wishbone bushes. You also need to allow (in your budget) for a full geometry setup unless it has been done recently Thumbs Up!

Everything else (pretty much) is fixable with the guides on her and when they are running right they are a very nice drive. Thumbs Up! Thumbs Up!

Good luck with the search

Angry Angry Angryhow dare you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Angry Angry Angry

you are spot on. there are loooads of migs with stupidly high mileage that are running excellently. just my preference!!!! mine has 85k and daz says its still just a baby   Grin Grin Grin

Thanks for all the replies guys. Essex big Al, i'm based near York.

I can honestly say this seems to be the best and friendliest forum i've been on so thanks guys.

Im looking at purchasing a 2.2 16v CD (03). Are these ok or have problems?

Reading the posts I see it is going to be high running costs, that dosn't bother me for services etc...I am a sticker for maintaining properly.

My only concern is just if it is going to break down a lot! But I suppose like most buys im gunna have to have my fingers crossed!  Tongue

Many thanks again
