What shade of gold on pre-facelift?
06. Aug 2006 at 18:46

Need some touch up paint to sort out the rust... I went to a Vx dealer gave them the code on the VIN plate (68L) said yup thats Champaign we can have that in a spray can (£6) for you in a few days..

1) How big are there spray cans?

2) I went a car paint specalist who mixes paint to order there and then said there was 2 shades of 68L.

My dads is a lighter shade of gold than my pre-faclift project car, does any one know if there is another code to differnce the 2 shades?

Do you break V6's as often as TheBoy? Then you need tunnie's towing services, recovery costs are just the humiliation of being towed by 2/3's of an engine

I dont know about the paint codes... Sad

Personally I would take off the filler cap (as its easy to) and take it too the specialist paint place you went to and ask for paint that colour....they should be able to match it.....that allows for paint fading....you should be able to buy a simple paint gun (i know i did years ago that used an air cartridge) if you want to spray.

Will cost you more than £6 but theres nothing worse than a job that the paints different shade!

Filler Cap!!!!  Smiley

Thanks, I was wondering what part of the car i could take to match the paint. Brilliant did't think of taking the petrol filler cap!

Thanks TD  Smiley

68L is Champagne as is 68U, but, there should be another number, on a label low down on the door post. Drivers side. Might start with a Z or W or whatever. This gives the exact shade.

got the stuff matches well, extra number code is 489

there are variants with +R and /R/ along with the number

But pre-face lift gold is 68L 489
