Project A Brake Bleed....

Firstly I would like to thank TheBoy & Mrs TheBoy for showing me how to do a full brake bleed yesterday.

I would also like to thank TheBoy for letting me borrow his brake bleed kit (bit of clear pipe and a pot)

Glad to report a did a full bleed on my Project A and replaced the fluid... and it now brakes much better. - Very satisfiying feeling since it had no braking at all to begin with! Shocked

Quite chuffed now I have done it, first real major thing I have done on my car.

Some pictures of the days events:

Jacked up back passenger side in the garage....

With the pipe attached to the brake bleed i got mother to pump the brake, on shouting the command 'push' she pushed and held the pedal, i then realsed the nut slightly and let the old brake fluid flush out. As soon as it began to slow in presure i closed the nut. Then gave the command 'Release to mother' - This continued several times to drain the system, then once it was topped up it was done again to get the new liquid though.

When i first started i put a little bit of brake fluid in the pot, just incase it tryed to suck back. Instead of air it would get brake fluid.

Yummy, old brake fluid.

Managed to flush a lot of air out of the system, well chuffed

Had to do my own when i upgraded to drilled and grooved discs with GreenStuff pads. The difference is, well, noticeable. And it does make you feel good when you can do it yourself.

Well done Tunnie

Basic maybe, but all vital jobs and to be able to this sort of thing yourself is a real money saver - plus you know it is done right!

If, as Andy B recommends, you start purchasing tools, be warned that this is quite addictive, not to mention expensive. I do not allow myself to look at tools anymore! Grin

, and good to put the piccies up. Some may consider it basic, but there are people, such as yourself, who may never have done it before, so the piccies really help Smiley

When you do your pads on the 2.2, may be worth buying new pad sensors if the previous owner/garage had just shorted wires together.

BTW, I still reckon when we did my nsf on the MV6, my fluid was dirtier than yours - thanks Crownhill Vauxhall/Evans Halshaw/whatever you're called this week - that was not 18 month old fluid Angry

Thanks for the comments all, unfornutley my camera died while doing the bleed. When i do my facelift I will prob get some better pictures of the bleed nipples and where they are on the front and rear calipers.

Yep i need decent tools, Jamie would second that as my socket set is not metric Roll Eyes

I found the bleed nipples were not done up too tight so my expensive looking wrench (which was £1 Grin

) did the job.

Think i need to get a TC card at this rate! - I need some more GM brake fluid so i will get some sensors as well.

They’re not alone. I had mine changed at W. Grose in Northampton. I'm sure that they just changed the fluid in the reservoir. There’s certainly no obvious sign that they touched the bleed nipples.

Aug 2006 at 10:29 If you need brake fluid in a hurry, I have a couple of 500ml bottle here, and I'm about until 4ish. I don't have any sensors though (which is a bugger, as i busted one the other day )

did you manage to bodge the old sensor back on?

I have the pads here so i might as well, just don't have the sensors. But I can put those on at a later date.

I need to work on the facelift today anyway as the scuttle is still blocking the drivers side washer jet.

Might pop around in a bit and get the fluid, quite interested to see how much Pad is left on the fronts on my facelift.
