heater blowing luke warm

My fans are working OK but even on max heat the air is only luke warm. The temp reading on the dash is about 20 degrees above actual temperature. Is this coincidence or are the 2 connected? Car is a 98 MV6.

If the car temp itself isnt rising to midpoint on the guage, then sounds like thermostat.

if it is, then flush the heater matrix as a 1st port of call, check the maint section for a how to  Thumbs Up!

I think I read somewhere that the climate system uses the outside temperature somehow.

A faulty outside temperature sensor could therefore confuse the climate system. (not sure if this applies to mini-facelift as well as facelift).

I think the outside sensors are cheap & easy to replace so it would make sense to change that first before pulling the heating & cooling systems apart.

Just posted a similar thread... my dash is saying 68 degrees, and the heater is blowing cold air... the climate control does rely on the outside temperature sensor. £3.85 from AutoVaux.... Thumbs Up!

I'm aware that the 'sampling fan' not working can affect the heater:
