My omega became a wedding car yesterday, all polished and ribboned up to take the bride to the wedding and on to the reception, sadly it was her last run out with me as the new owner is having it this week once i have removed my number plate,I shall be sad to see it go but it just doesn't get used enough to justify keeping it(220 miles since the beginning of july Embarrassed)

Well, yesterday and Saturday, actually.  Roll Eyes

Cam belt, cam cover gaskets, water pump, thermostat, etc. were changed 2K miles ago and last weekend it started leaking coolant. Angry

Immediately assumed it would be the thermostat as I used one of the housings with the thinner type flange.

Stripped it all down and pressurised the system to 1 bar with an airline. Water dribbling out slowly around the crank pulley area but also towards the nearside side of the sump. Hmm.

Thermostat, then? Area around the thermostat appeared bone dry, though. Poking around with a bit of rag on the end of a wire under the joint with the transfer pipe revealed absolutely no moisture also.

Eventually spotted what looked like a little leak around the water pump housing while poking around with a mirror but still wasn't convinced that it wasn't running down behind the backplate from further up.

Decided to pull the water pump off and when I did the sealing O ring looked like it had been on there for 10 years. Shocked Completely flattened and a texture like plastic. Now, this was a pattern pump. Can't remember where it came from as it had been kept as a spare for a couple of years and it was only changed because the coolant was being changed anyway, and the original had 120k on it. Angry I reckon the O ring was a bit sub-standard.

Back together with a new genuine seal, refilled with coolant and on pressurising the system the leak appears to have been fixed. Thumbs Up!

Drove to work today and no sign of any leakage.

So much for changing the water pump with the cam belt to save time if it fails later. Grin

Today I have been having a look at the new camper, a T25 Joker Hi top 1.6 TD.
Few small jobs including making sure the awning and the beds all are OK for sleeping in. Tidy up the electrics a bit but not very sure about the dual battery system especially as there are a few loose or unconnected wires hanging out of the box. All have female connectors on but not connected to anything.
Also sorted out all the curtains and have decided that we will have to get the windows tinted. As the van is blue and silver I think a nice silvered window would look good plus it would reflect the sun better than a dark tint. I may do a blue first then the silver, I dunno yet.
Pulled the dash top to pieces to find a nasty squeak and try to eliminate.

Really looking forward to our first trip away.

Nothing on the car, exactly.

Just about killed myself getting this onto the engine stand, though:
