Tracking.........
03. Sep 2011 at 18:54

Hey All
I took my Omega in to have tracking done yesterday and sadly was informed that it can't be done as adjusters n/s & o/s seized Sad
So do i need to relace Track Rod Ends both sides to have this done??
He said he didn't want to force them in case he couldn't re tighten..
Hope to get reply........ And still trying to sort my radio.. Ref earlier posts...

had same on mine get blow torch on it and use an grip wrench like they use in pluming get them undone easy without any damage. when undone get wire brush and clean the threads up and put some liquid grease on them and turn the adjuster over the threds a frew times until easy to move then take back in for adjustment. Thumbs Up! try and get it back to were it was ruf and take it easy driving there. Thumbs Up!

First off , what's the initial problem...? Tracking is only part of the set up issues on the omega. Usually camber is the culprit.

Track rods can usually be freed off. Plus gas in the slots by the clamps etc...

Question is are the track rods genuinely seized or are the staff being lazy...?

I always get tracking done on all my cars when i change them because alot of people dont ride square speed humps the right way. It should always be that you put n/s or o/s up and never ride across the middle of them so straining the steering and knocks tracking out. Sadly as its a repair centre i can't dictate to the mech on what to do ref heating up. I know that can be done i did ask him but was told no thats not their policy. So all i want to know that its the track rod ends that i need.. Plus with the tracking done pro longs tyre life as i am sure ya all know...
Thanks All    Thumbs Up!  Thumbs Up!

Hi
I would go elsewhere but a small blow touch on the rods to heat them up will expand them and as already said turn the rods at the same time then i would copper ease them, job done, then have it set up with a company called  wheel in motion who know what they are doing.  Thumbs Up!

Sorry, tracking is only a quarter of your problem, you need camber, castor and toe setup as well on on an Omega. As Chris says, Camber is the main issue on these cars and there a two factors that affect this, worn wishbone bushes and GM's incredibly wide factory spec which at best is barely acceptable when the car left the factory.

There are a known set of parameters that are known to work well on these cars that have been developed by Wheelsinmotion.

NB. Any place that sells purely tracking needs to be asked 'what is your reference point that you are tracking too and how do you know it's static and correct'.

Thumbs Up!

Quite right to get it checked. Even new cars get fired together so quick these days little thought is given to set up. Aston Martin quite often send new cars to Wim before delivery to the customer.
forget tracking, think full geometric set up, but check your steering and suspension for faults first as any subsequent work on the car in that area can throw the set up out again, making initial set up a waist of money.
Have a read.

I found the easiest way was to remove them from the car, free them in a vice, noting position of knuckles, replace and drive to WIM. Thumbs Up!
